Privacy Policy
Overview
Chromogen is a standalone photo-development app for Windows and macOS, together with this website. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app and the site handle — and, just as importantly, what they don't.
Your photos stay on your device
Chromogen develops your photos locally on your own computer. Your images, your edits and your exports are processed on your machine and are never uploaded to us or stored on our servers. Editing is non-destructive: your adjustments are saved in a small sidecar file next to each photo, and your original files are left untouched.
Licensing checks
When the app launches it makes an online check to validate your licence — for example, to confirm that a trial or a purchased key is active. This involves your licence details and the basic technical information needed to complete the check. It does not involve your photos.
The optional AI assistant
Chromogen includes an optional AI assistant that is turned off by default. If — and only if — you turn it on and add your own API key, it sends the current photo preview to the AI provider you choose so that provider can respond. That information goes directly to your chosen provider under their own terms and privacy policy; we do not receive or store it. If you never enable the assistant, nothing is sent.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider and merchant of record. When you buy a licence, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes the information needed for the transaction — such as your name, email, billing details and payment information — and handles applicable sales tax and VAT. We receive order and licence information (such as your email and what you bought) so we can deliver and support your licence, but we do not see or store your full payment-card details. Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy explains how they handle payment data.
This website
This is a simple, mostly-static marketing site. It does not run third-party advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies. Standard server logs (such as IP address and request details) may be kept by our hosting provider for security and reliability. The site loads web fonts from Google Fonts, and the checkout buttons load a script from Lemon Squeezy; those providers may receive technical request data as a normal part of serving those resources. If you email us, we receive your message and address in order to reply.
How we use information
We use the limited information we receive only to deliver and validate your licence, provide support, process and protect purchases against fraud (through Lemon Squeezy), and operate and improve the app and site. We do not sell your personal information, and we never use your photos for any purpose.
Your choices and rights
You can contact us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you (such as your order email) and to ask how your data is handled. Because your photos never leave your device, you stay in full control of them at all times. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA — email us to exercise them.
Data retention
We keep order and licence records for as long as we need them to support your licence and to meet legal, accounting and tax obligations, after which we delete or anonymise them.
Children
Chromogen is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and post the revised version on this page.
